The cool thing about playing a wide variety of music from the sixties through today is that it has such universal appeal. It would be easy to assume that 20 year-olds want to hear only today’s artists, urban people prefer hip hop, folks over 50 will only tolerate classic rock or country, and small town people want only country music.
Wrong!
It’s amazing. We find younger guests who are crazy about Creedence, and greybeards who love Dave Mathews. And everybody seems to like today’s modern country music.
We have learned that we can’t “outguess” an audience. Age, ethnicity, and hometown just don’t seem to matter. Sometimes a preference can be detected half-way through a performance, but most of the time we mix genres and periods all the way through the gig. In fact, I’m convinced that’s what most Carolina music lovers want – a broad mixture of music, performed with energy and soul.
So that’s our mission! Hope to see you at a CBD show soon.
